The NDCOAware Project was funded by the Department of Education and Training under the NDCO Strategic Funding guidelines. The Project was delivered by a Consortium of NDCO's in Regions 22 (North Queensland), 25 (Northern SA) and 31 (Northern Territory).
With the advent of new initiatives like NDIS and other Government moves to better engage Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, more and more new staff are being bought into sectors where they engage with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander individuals with disability, their families/carers and their communities.
The NDCOAware Project set out to capture material that would supplement and complement existing Cultural Awareness and Cross Cultural training programs for non-indigenous service provider staff. The aim was to provide a toolkit of resources that would increase understanding of how Indigenous people felt about the way services interact with them, and this increased understanding would result in better levels of service provision.
The Project is designed to be an on-going resource and Aboriginal and Torres strait Islander individuals with disability, their families, professionals and organisations are invited to contribute additional material to the resource to enhance its growth and relevance.
